Dillon Mini Vee Racing Powerboat Plans
These are original and recent plans, not reprints from some magazine printed 40
years ago.
The Dillon Mini Vee is an 11'11" v-bottom boat specifically intended for racing in the Mini GT and GT Pro classes. But it is also an excellent
high-performance boat for the non-racer, and a great building project. Construction is straight-forward plank-on-frame
plywood. In fact the Mini Vee is a particularly good project for the first time builder.
"The boat is getting there; I have had no problems at all with any assembly of it. It
has been a heck of a lot of fun to build."
A. F., Andover, MN
I designed and built the original Dillon Mini Vee in the summer of 2006, and raced it four times in the Mini GT (25 hp) class
late in the season. In the spring of 2007, I upgraded to 35 hp, added hydraulic trim, then drove it in seven GT Pro races
and earned the 2007 Highpoints Championship.
In the 2008 the Mini Vee's new owner won two races and one additional podium finish -- in his rookie year.
Mini GT and GT Pro are APBA Sportsman classes raced in events organized by the Twin City Powerboat Association in Minnesota a surrounding states.
Mini GT is open to v-bottoms and tunnel boats at least 10 feet long using stock 25hp Johnson and Evinrude motors with
aluminum propellers. Top speed is about 40 mph. It is simple and inexpensive, and with a minimum driving age of
12-years-old, a great way to get the kids involved in racing. The Dillon Mini Vee is the ONLY homebuilt boat approved for
this class.
GT Pro is open to v-bottoms and tunnel boats at least 10 feet long using stock 35hp Johnsons and Evinrudes with hydraulic
trim and no restrictions on propellers. Top speed is currently about 45 mph and should climb toward 50 mph as the
class continues to develop. Minimum driver age is 14-years-old. GT Pro is a
natural step-up from Mini GT.
The plans package includes eleven measured drawings, a scantling list, and notes on wood, hardware and other materials needed
to complete your boat. Also, I have created 14 web pages of shop notes including more than 60 photos which will guide you
through the entire building process. Click here to see those construction notes right now. Also, I will be just an email away if you have
questions.
You will find the complete story at dillon-racing.com,

built in the spring of 2009 (the green and white boat in the pictures below).
